Method - Three hundred and ninety six USA, UK, and Australian residents (38.60% USA, 26.50% UK, 34.80% Australia) completed an online questionnaire.Ages ranged from 16-71 years (M = 34.53, Mdn = 20, SD = 8.98); 71.00% of the sample was female, 28.00% was male, and 1.00% of participants identified as ‘custom’.Essay text: In the meantime the RIAA attempts to disrupt the networks by attempting to share fake files and in turn hope that it frustrates the end user trying to find a music track and have them give up.While this works with a small percentage, the networks have found ways around such tactics...Research limitations/implications– The limitations of the paper are linked mainly to the adapted scales, to the analysis of just two subscription-based music services (Napster and Spotify) and to the fact that all respondents came from one country.Practical implications– The results call for a greater commitment by music industry actors to educate consumers about the consequences and implications of online music piracy, while also stressing the value added and hedonic benefits offered by subscription-based music services.
